My wife and I did not really know what to expect of New Orleans. I had been there when I was a kid, but had not been back since they had the infamous Hurricane Katrina hit the town. I somewhat in my mind had pictured that the vast majority of the houses would be desolate, that there would few people around, and probably even less to actually do.
However, I can say that I was actually pleasantly surprised. Sure, there are plenty of homes that are desolate down there. Some of the districts and things that got severely flooded have many condemned houses. A lot of them have already been demolished but there are many that are still standing.
Due to all the flooding, I was slightly concerned about trying to find a vacation rental home there. I did not really know what to expect. However, right down near there downtown area where there was still that classic bourbon street buzz, we were able to find a nice vacation rental home. We were within walking distance of where most of the activity was going on and we had a lot of fun just going around looking at the bars and things that were in the area. The people seemed extremely friendly and happy to see tourists, probably something they do not see as frequently anymore. Overall, I would say that New Orleans can still be considered a good vacation rental home spot. It still has a lot of the good music, food, and bars that has always had.
