I guess I might have a little bit of a skewed viewpoint on this. However, I have done both in the past. When my wife and I first got married, we took a vacation out to Las Vegas where we stayed right on the strip. Do not get me wrong, there are some nice rooms there and staying on the strip maybe even has some perks. However, I still prefer to have a vacation rental home.

#1: You Get Away From the Crowd

I guess I am just not real big on huge crowds and busy streets. Clearly, Las Vegas is a city that never sleeps. However, I do. So when its time for me to go to bed, we did on occasion hear people being loud out in the hallway. It was slightly frustrating. Getting away from the large crowds of people that are up at all the weird hours of the night is definitely nice! The vacation rental homes are typically in peaceful and quiet neighborhoods.

#2: Come in from either side of the strip

If you are like me, you probably just enjoy seeing all of the casinos. I enjoy gambling, but I am not so compelled to it that I want to sit behind a blackjack table the whole time. The problem though is that if you are on the strip, it is difficult to get to the other side. Driving is nearly impossible during the late evening hours when it is the best time to get outside. There is simply too much traffic. The best way is to drive from off the strip to one of the side casinos, park there, then walk your way through it. Or, view the strip from one of the side streets nearby if you prefer not to walk.

#3: Do other things away from the strip

The Las Vegas area has a lot to offer other than the strip itself. My wife and I really enjoyed the Hoover Dam. That thing is a monster! Also, once you get out of town the desert area has a particular and unique beauty to it. Unlike most areas of the nation, it has a distinct desert feel to it that is unlike most other places I have been. It is extremely pretty! You definitely should get outside and see some of that, which might be near impossible if you simply are staying on the strip itself. Getting out can be hard.
