Last weekend was one of the most fun weekends I have had in a long time. A few guys from where I work decided that they wanted to do a float trip. Sure, the last time I did a float trip I was just a kid. The river was a little high, I saw someone that had almost drowned, and generally it was just a pretty crazy time. This time though, we changed rivers and went down the Mountain Fork river in southeastern Oklahoma. It was an absolute blast!
We left on a Saturday morning, arrived on the water at about noon. We felt pretty brave, so we decided to go with the longest trip they had available which is 18 miles. Let me tell you, that is a long way! The first day we went and floated down the first 10 miles. They had a vacation rental home there that was absolutely gorgeous. Since there were five of us paying on the thing, it was not so badly priced. They had a hot tub just outside on a deck near the river, on the same deck was a nice place to put your poles in a rod holder while you are fishing. We spent a good portion of the time just sitting in the hot tub watching our poles late into the evening. We caught four or five pretty decent sized catfish.
The next morning we left the vacation rental home about 7:00 that morning. We had to hit the destination before noon and did not want to risk missing that time. We pretty much paddled straight through and arrived earlier than anticipated which was about 11:00. It was extremely beautiful! I do not think many people probably float that far down the river so we really did not see any other floaters the entire rest of the way. I would recommend a float trip like this to anyone!
