The Redwood Forest Is Not Just About Seeing Redwood Trees

The Redwood Forest is every outdoorsman’s dream. But there is a common misconception about everything you can do there. Most people picture the redwood forest as many campgrounds and only a few things to do. However, from an outdoorsman’s perspective, there is a lot to do.

My wife and I opted to get a nice vacation rental home just on the outskirts of the Redwood Forest. It was literally just a few miles outside of it. We would drive our car into the forest and hike one of the many trails that are available. My wife and I particularly liked the trail options that were available. We started out with a nice little warm-up. We did a relatively short 0.6 mile hike on one of the trails that was listed as easy and fairly flat. We thought that it would be nice after already being tired from the drive to the Redwood Forest not to expend all of our energy at once.

The second day we opted for a longer trail that was near to our vacation rental home. It was more strenuous, went up in elevation, and was only large enough for walkers; there were no bikes or horses allowed. It made it very interesting. In fact, we only saw people a couple of times while on the trail. This was good for us because I do not think you go hiking to be with a lot of people. You go to be alone.

Hiking is not the only thing to do in the Redwood Forest though. You can also fish. There is actually a river that goes all the way from the pacific into the Redwood Forest. It is well known for its salmon that often go up the stream certain times of the year to spawn. We were lucky enough to catch this part of the year. The fishing was really good, and this year they expect it to be even better.
